Depression and Hope (D&H), led by Linda Rowland, is a network of support groups for those in the community suffering with Depression. D&H aims to connect with, support and bring hope to those struggling with Depression. Those attending each group are able to find hope through education and equipping with skills to manage and improve everyday life.
Depression and Hope (operating under the Hope Newcastle Inc Board) has been in a season of change, and after prayerful consideration, the board has decided to launch the existing (and future) groups into the community. These groups will now manage their own advertising, operations, and expenses independently, rather than continuing as a partnership under Hope Newcastle. In this new season, Hope Newcastle is transitioning to a role as a resource provider, focusing on building a more detailed and replicable program that can be led by lay people in any church or community group, with the aim of extending its reach beyond the Hunter region.
This means that effectively, New Vine Lakes is now once again responsible just for supporting the Belmont group, although the co-ordinator (Linda Rowland) will continue to provide support to others in a less formal way.
In the Belmont group, it has been a pleasure to witness friendships forming and new participants being welcomed as old ones say farewell. At times, Christian participants have had the opportunity to encourage each other and others by sharing ways in which their relationship with God has helped them. Several members of the group have taken to having lunch together after meetings, and they are showing compassion for each other in the ups and downs of life. This was especially evident in their kindness and generosity when the wife of one of the participants recently passed away.
